All About These Locks

Happy Birthday America! How was everyone’s red, white, and blue Wednesday?

So dolls, let’s talk about hair. After growing out of my awkward teenage stage, am I the only one thankful that we outgrow that stage? I finally got a grip on my hair and how to style it. Growing up on an island came with not just the heat but the humidity of epic proportions. This posed a great road block for my “pretty hair” stage. Whether it was the heat, humidity, or hair was no opponent. I finally accepted the fact that I could not straighten my hair without looking like a lion by 12pm.

I finally turned to the sister of the flat iron: the curling wand. What would I do without such a thing?! My go to hairstyle for years now has been to curl my head of locks. Doing my hair is the second most important task in my "Get Ready Routine," right below picking out my outfit for the day, of course! haha!

I’ve gotten so many compliments over the years, from friends to baristas at my favorite drive thru coffee stand; I became known as the girl with the nice hair.

So, I decided to give you dolls the run down on the products that I use. My main products are: a good brush, a heat protectant, hairspray, and a leave-in conditioner. I wash my hair every other day, check out the shampoo and conditioner I’m currently using. It has become a holy grail product, for sure!

A GOOD GO TO BRUSH will always help untangle all the mess before styling. This cute, light weight brush is from Goody. Some brushes can be a bit harsh while assisting with the untangling, but I find this one to be quite helpful without all the pain.

NEVER SKIP A HEAT PROTECTANT. I’m sure you’ve heard this from almost every female blogger, youtuber, or hair stylist. I’ve been using this heat protectant from TRESemme for YEARS! It protects up to 450°F. It is affordable, now who can complain about that? Maybe it's just me, but I feel like TRESemme has improved the scent of this product over the years. To me, it smells quite floral and almost salon-like. As if your stylist had just used expensive products on your hair to make it look great like in the commercials.

AFTER CURLING MY HAIR WITH A 1 ¼ INCH CURLING WAND I SET EVERYTHING WITH MY HOLY GRAIL HAIRSPRAY. I must admit I have tried my fair share of hairsprays in my lifetime (Not your mothers, Suave, Garnier Fructis, etc.), hairsprays can be quite pricey btw! It took a while to settle on something that checks everything on my list:

1.       Holds my curls

2.       Does not leave my locks hard/crunchy

3.       Affordable

4.       Nice scent

Herbal Essence, Body Envy Volumizing Hairspray meets all my criteria. I recommend giving this product a try. After you do spray it on your hair, definitely run your fingers through it. It’ll not only loosen your curls to make them look more natural, but it will get rid of the harsh feel, all while still giving your curls that volume you want. This hairspray also helps with humidity and leaves a great citrus scent.

A LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER is a nice bonus product. Something that’ll give moisture back to your locks after drying them from the blow drying and the curling. Like my hairspray journey, I have also tried quite a few leave-in conditioners. Living in Guam, a leave-in conditioner was an immense help with the war against frizz. Although, I have moved to an area with less humidity, I have kept this routine with me. After curling my hair and setting it with my Herbal Essence hairspray, I finish off with a drop of this leave-in conditioner. This Curl Nourish Butter Cream Leave-In Treatment from Garnier Fructis is the perfect thing to knock some moisture back into those locks with oils from coconuts, jojoba, and macadamias!

Now, that I’ve shared with you what I use on the daily, I would love to know what you’re using. Also, I’m currently looking for a new dry shampoo. Comment down below what you’re using! I’d love to know!

Have a great summer dolls! Until next time.

xx, Des
